Otterhead House & The Old Chicken House were the properties we used on our application when we won Renovation of the year 2020 in The Daily Telegraph Homebuilding & Renovating awards. After a number of potential property purchases falling through and scouring the market every day for 12 months Otterhead House (formally Royston Cottage) came onto the market. Being in the perfect buying position it was a case of right time, right place that secured it. We completed the purchase in July 2017.
The greatest challenge with this was that property development was now a full-time occupation, there was no background salary coming in to keep things moving (this situation was the creator of BlackOak).
The original intention was to work our magic over 12-18 months, bring it up to modern day standards then sell. Life (and the councils planning department) however, does not always go the way we plan. All the trials, tears and tribulations can be witnessed in the weekly Vlog we did throughout the entire build – The Cottage.
The challenging and uncomfortable journey led us to a destination far greater than we could have ever imagined.
